Remarks: Milwaukee Road #261 makes good time shuttling 9 gondolas to interchange with the Twin Cities and Western in Buffalo Lake, MN. Once a two track main, the line is now single and sees mostly TC&W trains. Charter by Lerro Productions. A 3/4 profile pacing photo, rods down, at 1/15th under overcast skies during a midwest downpour.

Remarks: MILW 261 powers a freight out of the yard past the stopped Olympian Hiawatha as seen from the Skytop Dome Cedar Rapids. The other patrons had gone into town to wait for the arrival of the photo freight but I was determined to get an unstaged shot of the 261 out of the obs car. A very special thanks goes to Mitch Goldman who was kind enough to lend me his 10-20mm lens for this once-in-a-lifetime shot!

Remarks: Here's the result of the National Railroad Museum's decision - a beautiful locomotive stuck in the middle of her rebuild, now destined to Rust In Peace in Green Bay. So to the Sandberg family and the Friends of the 261: Thank you for sharing the 261 with us for 15 years and Godspeed in finding another locomotive - one that can be purchased or leased from an organization that cares more about preserving living history than making money. To the National Railroad Museum: May you close and your collection be distributed among museums that actually care.

Remarks: Milwaukee Road 261 very slowly and under the the watchful eye of the crew backs up after it spread the rails on a very tight piece of curved track. The mainline belonged to the Wisconsin Central at the time. That S curve that went through there was very tight and watching freights go through there was interesting as cars swung sharply from side to side. I think that has all been rebuilt now.

Remarks: After a long afternoon and night photo session, the crew of MILW 261 gather and discuss tomorrows plans. Although the moon shines now, the clouds would eventually come in and heavy rains would ensue. A Lerro Productions event.

Remarks: No 261, no problem! Just make a "guest" engine a Milwaukee locomotive (hey, the colors are pretty close to the Hiawatha). NOT a photoshop job, just some fun in the shop when Doyle wasn't looking. That's the logo off of 261's tender.

Remarks: An attempt to put the 261 through some tight curves on the Wisconsin Central caused to rails to start turning over. You can see the rails are at an angle. Crews were frantic, but engineer stopped the engine on a dime as soon as he heard the rails pop.
